The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) received on Thursday a million units of medicines, materials and equipment for the combat of COVID-19 donated by the government of India. According to a statement, the shipment includes antibiotics, pain relievers, antivirals, vitamins, diuretics, surgical gowns and gloves, as well as sampling tubes, thermometers, and swabs, among other supplies.
“Thanks to the Republic of India for demonstrating that, if there is a way to emerge victorious from this difficult situation, it is through cooperation, solidarity and constant work,” said Miguel Vargas, Dominican Foreign Minister. In particular, he thanked the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi , and the chancellor of that nation, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar , for deepening the ties of friendship between the two countries through cooperation.
The senior diplomat stressed that this is the second Indian donation to the Dominican Republic during the pandemic, since in April of this year the country received 200,000 hydroxychloroquine tablets.
Likewise, he recognized the fundamental role that the Dominican ambassador in New Delhi, Hans Dannenberg, has played in materializing this aid.
