The amount stolen in the Electoral Board of Santiago amounts to 37 million pesos

The sum of money stolen from the headquarters of the Las Carreras avenue of the Electoral Board of Santiago amounts to 37 million pesos, according to what the agency reported on Tuesday afternoon.

The stolen money was intended to pay the staff of the elections set for Sunday, July 5.

Haime Thomás Frías Carela, president of the Santiago Electoral Board, reported that the authorities are working to find those responsible for the act, which he described as “theft or attempted sabotage of the electoral process.” However, he explained that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) has arranged to replenish the funds so that the election day can be completed and its collaborators can meet.

To commit the act, which occurred on Tuesday morning, hitherto unknown persons violated an exterior door of the building that houses the offices of the Santiago Electoral Board, perpetrating the theft of cash.

Four detainees

The director of the Cibao Central Regional Command of the National Police, brigadier general, Pablo de Jesús Dipré, reported that the four members of the Santiago Electoral Board security who were on duty Monday night are detained for investigation purposes.

While the Scientific Police officers carry out the site survey.

Santiago’s chief prosecutor, Francisco Núñez, guaranteed that they will find those responsible for the act.

Another robbery

It is recalled that last week part of the electrical wiring of the Santiago Electoral Board was stolen. This criminal act affected the identification services for several days.
